Cattery Assistant Expressions of Interest

Takurua Vets welcomes expressions of interest from people who are interested in cattery work and feel aligned with the way our boarding cattery operates.

While we may not always be advertising an active cattery role, we are always interested in hearing from thoughtful, reliable people who value calm animal care, good routines, and a high standard of day-to-day responsibility.

Working in our boarding cattery

Takurua Vets operates a veterinary-led boarding cattery in Christchurch, designed for cats who benefit from a calm, structured environment with clinical oversight available if needed. This includes cats who are anxious, senior, on medication, or recovering from recent health issues.

Working in this environment means being part of a service that is not simply about accommodation. It is about helping cats settle well, monitoring how they are coping, maintaining a clean and orderly environment, and supporting a standard of care that reflects both animal welfare and the expectations of a veterinary clinic.

What the role may involve

A cattery assistant at Takurua Vets may be involved in preparing and cleaning cattery units, feeding cats, refreshing water and litter, observing appetite and behaviour, helping cats settle into their accommodation, and supporting the day-to-day routines that keep the cattery calm, hygienic, and well run.

The role may also include providing photo and video updates for owners during their cat’s stay, responding to email communication, and using the clinic’s digital systems to keep care information organized and up to date. Depending on the needs of the cattery and the wider team, this may also involve following feeding or medication instructions provided by the clinic and communicating clearly about any changes in behaviour, appetite, comfort, or general wellbeing.

Who we would like to hear from

We would especially like to hear from people who are calm, dependable, observant, and comfortable working with cats in a thoughtful and gentle way. This role may suit someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in cleanliness and routine, and understands that small details can make a meaningful difference to how a cat experiences boarding.

We value people who are well organised, communicate clearly, and contribute positively to the day-to-day systems that help a small team work well. Because the role also involves owner communication and day-to-day coordination, it may especially suit someone who is confident with email communication, comfortable using digital workflows, and able to provide clear, reassuring updates to clients during their cat’s stay.

Availability around cattery drop-off and pick-up times is also important, as these are key parts of the boarding experience for both cats and their owners.

Experience working with cats, animal care, boarding environments, or veterinary settings may be helpful, but we are open to hearing from a broad range of applicants who bring the right attitude, work ethic, and standard of care.

The kind of environment we are building

Our boarding cattery is designed to support cats who may find a typical boarding setting difficult. A quieter environment, gentle handling, structured routines, and close observation are an important part of how we care for cats during their stay.

For the right person, this role is an opportunity to be part of a service where cat comfort, calm handling, and thoughtful care are taken seriously.
