Rosie Doran

Veterinary Nurse

Rosie is a valued member of the Takurua Vets nursing team and quickly became known for her calm, compassionate approach to patient care. She describes herself as “a cat in a dog disguise” - while she loves dogs, cats have a very special place in her heart. What she enjoys most about veterinary nursing is being able to make a positive difference for animals and the people who love them, whether that’s through hands-on surgical nursing, advancing her clinical skills, or sneaking in a well-earned kitten cuddle.

Clients warm to Rosie because of her kind, thoughtful nature and her genuine commitment to making people and their pets feel heard and valued, especially when situations are difficult or decisions feel overwhelming. For Rosie, the most rewarding part of her role is advocating for animals who can’t speak for themselves and seeing that advocacy translate into better quality of life.

At home Rosie is firmly outnumbered by cats: Geronimo (or Gerry), her first foster who has been with her since he was just one week old and is now five; Minnie and Minx, three-year-old siblings who joined the family last year; and Kaida, the one-year-old baby of the household who arrived at just eight weeks of age. When she’s not working, you might find Rosie crocheting, demonstrating her not-so-useful but impressive ability to touch her nose with her tongue, or enjoying any dessert she can get her hands on - in her opinion, it’s the only course that really matters.

A lifelong fan of Lilo & Stitch (you’ll spot the theme in just about everything she owns) and a regular re-reader of Delirium by Lauren Oliver, Rosie brings patience, gentleness and a strong focus on stress-free handling to every consult, with a particular soft spot for nervous kitty cats. Her personal motto sums up her calm approach to both work and life: “If it’s out of your hands, don’t keep it in your head.”
