If there’s one thing Katy loves most about her work, it’s seeing animals walk out the door healthy again after she’s been hands-on in helping them get there. Nursing sick or injured pets back to health is what she finds most rewarding about veterinary care, and it’s the reason she’s stayed so passionate about the profession.
Katy describes herself as a Border Terrier - small, determined, and a little bit feisty when she needs to be - and that quiet resilience shows in the way she works with patients. She admires the determination animals show when they’re unwell, and it’s this same resilience that she brings to the clinic every day.
Clients quickly discover that Katy is genuinely interested in them and their pets. She loves getting to know families and hearing their stories. She prides herself on going above and beyond to help however she can, whether that’s explaining a treatment plan or simply taking a little extra time with a nervous patient.
At home, Katy has a rescue dog named Mila who is her absolute world. Mila loves adventures, playing with other dogs, and especially the beach - a word that now has to be spelled out in Katy’s house to avoid too much excitement when a trip isn’t actually happening.
Katy is especially good at helping anxious pets feel more comfortable during their visits. She believes in slowing things down, keeping handling gentle, using plenty of treats, and creating positive experiences whenever possible. She also encourages families to bring pets in for happy visits so that the clinic doesn’t always feel like a scary place.
If she could have any superpower it would be the ability to fly, her go-to snack is a packet of chippies, and her all-time favourite movie is The Lion King. The advice she lives by comes from her mum: “Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out.” It’s a mindset that fits perfectly with how she approaches both life and veterinary nursing.
