Takurua Vets is a locally owned, community clinic and a member of the IndieVets network - a group of independent veterinary practices committed to clinical autonomy, sustainable working conditions and patient-centred care.
This page explains why independence matters, and how it shapes the experience for you and your pet.
Independent veterinary care means decisions are made inside the clinic - not by external shareholders, private equity groups or distant corporate offices. Our team controls how medicine is practised, how time is allocated to each patient and how we invest back into our community.
As an independent clinic, our veterinarians are free to choose the diagnostics, treatment pathways and referral options that are right for each individual case. There are no corporate protocols or revenue-driven constraints influencing clinical judgement.
Medicine remains medicine.
Takurua Vets was built to serve the Upper Riccarton and wider Christchurch community. We invest locally, partner with welfare organisations and sponsor community events.
We don’t operate on a retention-at-all-costs model. We operate on trust.
Strong, independent clinics are essential to healthy communities. They create continuity of care, preserve professional integrity and build long-term relationships that extend beyond individual appointments.
We are proud to be part of that tradition - and to offer Christchurch a truly community-focused veterinary clinic.
