Heena Kamran

Cattery Assistant

Heena is a cattery assistant at Takurua Vets. Working in veterinary care gives her the opportunity to spend time with animals, learn new ways to help them, and make a difference in their care.

Clients are likely to notice Heena's friendly, calm and reliable nature. She loves helping animals feel comfortable and safe, and her responsible, approachable manner helps owners feel confident that their pets are in good hands.

If she were a cat, Heena would be a Selkirk Rex: reserved, laid-back and loyal. That calm nature is especially valuable in the cattery, where every cat has their own personality and may need a little time and space to settle in.

The most rewarding part of Heena's work is caring for the cats and helping them feel safe, comfortable and loved. She enjoys getting to know each cat's personality, seeing them relax during their stay, and watching them reunite with their owners.

Heena always reads an animal's body language before approaching and uses those signals to decide how best to interact with them. With anxious pets, she uses a gentle, quiet voice and slow movements to help them feel more at ease.

At home, Heena has a ginger cat who is her world and looks like Boots from Puss in Boots. He is either in an energetic zoomies phase or asleep on his favourite bed or on Heena. Having him as her best friend has shown her how special pets are and how important it is to help them feel safe and happy.

It is fitting that Heena's favourite film is Puss in Boots. Her favourite piece of advice is:

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."
