Deanna is a new graduate veterinarian who has joined Takurua Vets from Calgary, Canada. She moved to New Zealand to join her partner for an adventure and is excited to be part of the team.
What Deanna enjoys most about veterinary care is building relationships with clients by taking the time to get to know them and their pets. She values working together with families to create care plans tailored to each patient's individual needs.
Clients are likely to notice Deanna's calm, caring approach and her willingness to answer questions and explain things in more detail. She wants clients and their pets to feel comfortable and supported, so that everyone feels heard, valued and confident in the care their pet receives.
If she were a dog, Deanna would be a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, or Toller. It is one of four dog breeds originating from Canada and the smallest of the retrievers. Like a Toller, Deanna is highly energetic and loves the outdoors, and she is looking forward to exploring New Zealand through hiking, camping, biking and skiing.
One of the most rewarding parts of Deanna's work is supporting people and their pets throughout every stage of life, from their younger years through to their senior years. During visits, she lets pets approach at their own pace and uses treats, patience and a calm, gentle approach to build trust and help them feel more relaxed.
Deanna does not have any pets yet, but hopes to have a cat she can bring on adventures with her. What she loves most about animals is the unconditional love and companionship they provide.
Outside the clinic, Deanna can crochet a baby seal, and other small creations, in under an hour. She loves ice cream and is currently especially fond of Duck Island. She enjoys dystopian and fantasy books, a good mystery novel, and the occasional reality television show. If she could choose a superpower, it would be teleportation to make visits home to Canada much faster.
Her personal motto is a reminder to stay present and enjoy each moment as it comes:
"Be where your feet are."
